Harbor Mountain Hike

Going for a hike on a beautiful day up Harbor Mountain in Sitka, Alaska.

At the top and what a view...Mount Edgecumbe is in the background, our inactive Volcano.

We ran into an old classmate of Vince's at the top and he had decided to fly his paraglider that day. He was a little nervous because he hadn't done it for a few years.

Here's the first attempt

yet the wind came up on a cross wind and slammed his parachute to the ground.

Here's the second attempt

Which became successful!

What a beautiful view! What we didn't get on film was right after this picture was taken, his parachute collapsed on the left side and he started dropping fast, but luckily and with much skill he pulled out of it and caught the wind to properly open the sails once again.

Duvet Cover in Exchange for Tans

I made this quilt/duvet cover for my neighbors daughter's comforter for her toddler bed in exchange for some tans so that I could wear my strapless dress for my birthday and to surprise my honey when he got into town.

Mom's Quilt

Of coarse I couldn't make my brother and his wife a quilt without making one for my mother! She was surprised and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Caribbean Quilt

This is a quilt that I made for my brother for his wedding. They plan to have their honeymoon in the Caribbean and stay at a Sandals Resort. I made it with the intention that they could lay it on top of their lounge chairs or take with them to the beach. I made a duplicate one for his wife as well.

Here is the back of the quilt.

Fish & Game/Coast Guard Troll Fishing Survey

I just flew with the Coast Guard yesterday to participate in the Alaska Department of Fish and Game's annual flight survey of the Fairweather Troll fishing grounds. It was the first time that I have ever been in a helicopter and it was simply awesome. I got all suited up and we flew from Sitka to the Fairweather grounds, counted and identified troll vessels then we flew over Haines and Skagway, conducted several cruise ship fly-bys in honor of Independence Day, refueled in Juneau and headed home. During the flight I got to see Lituya Bay (where the huge land slide created the mega tsunami) and we flew through Glacier Bay Pass. I tried to get some good pictures, but the helio shakes a little bit. So here you go! I didn't get a picture of myself in there as the crew was too busy, but wished I had asked! Enjoy

Here's the troll commercial fishing vessel named Kaia. What a beautiful image.

Lituya Bay, Alaska

Flying over the Glaciers...and boy was it cold with the door open in the helicopter.

So this is what the top of the cruise ships look like! I wonder if the pools are heated?

Alaska Marine Highway Ferry...check out the tents camped out on the solarium.
